Bergamot (evergreen) belongs to the Rutaceae Family, native to the Canary Islands. The tree may grow from 2 - 10 m. tall. Bergamot is cultivated rather than grown in the wild. The oil is extracted from the peel/rind of the pear like, but inedible, fruit the tree produces.
